The holy month of Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and compassion. But this year, it was also a shining example of unity and generosity across Birmingham. From with one shared purpose: to make a difference. And at the heart of this effort were the incredible volunteers of African Relief.
Thanks to their tireless dedication, African Relief not only met, but exceeded its goals, reaching thousands in urgent need across East Africa. In regions such as Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya—where youth unemployment is high and government support often limited—this aid was nothing short of life-changing.
What made this year’s campaign truly special was that it was led by the youth. Young volunteers organised daily iftars, mobilised friends and family, and launched peer-to-peer fundraising efforts that amplified the charity’s mission. Their creativity, energy, and commitment turned simple acts of kindness into powerful tools for change.
From preparing meals at dawn to fundraising late into the night, these young changemakers demonstrated what it truly means to serve. They didn’t just give their time they gave their hearts. Through their efforts, African Relief was able to provide food parcels, clean water, and essential medical aid to some of the most vulnerable communities in East Africa.
Ramadan reminds us of the value of giving, of being grateful, and of uplifting those around us. These volunteers embodied that spirit fully. They were the hands that reached out, the voices that spoke up, and the hearts that beat with compassion. Without them, this campaign would not have been possible.
To every volunteer who gave their time, energy, and soul to this cause, thank you. Your efforts were not just appreciated, they were transformative. You have shown that with unity, passion, and faith, even the most ambitious goals can be achieved.
As we move forward, let us carry this momentum with us. Let this Ramadan be a reminder that real change starts with everyday people coming together to do extraordinary things.
mosques to community centres, homes to high streets, countless individuals came together
