Zakat-ul-Fitr, also known as Fitrana, is a compulsory charity given at the end of Ramadan by every Muslim who possesses more than their basic needs. This sacred obligation must be fulfilled before the Eid prayer, allowing vulnerable families to meet their essential needs and celebrate Eid with dignity.

How Much Is Zakat ul Fitr?
Zakat ul Fitr is traditionally given as staple food such as wheat, rice, dates, or barley, or its cash equivalent. The exact amount may vary slightly depending on food prices and local guidance.

Zakat-ul-Fitr is Obligatory Upon:

  • Eligible Adults: Every adult Muslim who meets the minimum threshold.
  • On Behalf of Dependents: On behalf of each family member, including children.
  • Surplus Wealth: Anyone who has surplus food or wealth beyond basic needs on the night of Eid.

When Should It Be Given?

Ibn Umar (RA) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) made Zakat ul Fitr obligatory as one sa‘ of dates or barley upon every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
