Zakat-ul-Fitr, also known as Fitrana, is a compulsory charity given at the end of Ramadan by every Muslim who possesses more than their basic needs. This sacred obligation must be fulfilled before the Eid prayer, allowing vulnerable families to meet their essential needs and celebrate Eid with dignity.
How Much Is Zakat ul Fitr?
Zakat ul Fitr is traditionally given as staple food such as wheat, rice, dates, or barley, or its cash equivalent. The exact amount may vary slightly depending on food prices and local guidance.

Zakat ul Fitr must be paid:
Before the Eid prayer (obligatory time).
Preferably in the last days of Ramadan.
If given after Eid prayer, it is counted as general charity, not Zakat ul Fitr.
Ibn Umar (RA) reported: “The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) made Zakat ul Fitr obligatory as one sa‘ of dates or barley upon every Muslim, slave or free, male or female, young or old.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The fast remains suspended between heaven and earth until Zakat ul Fitr is paid.”
