This Ramadan, Turn Your Worship Into Lifesaving Impact

Ramadan is a month of mercy, reflection, and generosity. As we fast from dawn to sunset, millions of families across Africa struggle not just with hunger during the day — but with hunger every single day.

Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated: "The Prophet (PBUH) was the most generous of all the people, and he used to become even more generous in Ramadan when Gabriel met him... he used to be more generous than the fast wind." (Sahih Bukhari).

In the holy month of Ramadan 2025, the African Relief Fund remains committed to its mission across Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Kenya, ensuring that your generous contributions reach those facing catastrophic circumstances.

"Whoever helps a fasting person to break their fast, for him is the same reward as theirs (the fasting person), without that diminishing anything from the reward of the fasting person."

(Sunan al-Tirmidhi).

Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana)

Zakat al-Fitr is a compulsory charity due before the Eid prayer. It purifies your fast and ensures that vulnerable families can celebrate Eid with dignity and joy. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “The fast remains suspended between Heaven and Earth until Zakat al-Fitr is paid.” (Ibn Abbas)

When you give your Fitrana through ARF, it is distributed to needy families in Somalia and across Africa — providing essential food so they, too, can celebrate Eid without hunger.

Your Fitrana provides essential staple food to struggling families before Eid, bringing joy and relief to vulnerable households while helping to complete and purify your Ramadan fast.

£5 per person (or according to current local guidance). It must be paid before the Eid prayer.

Fidya & Kaffarah

If you are unable to fast due to chronic illness, old age, or other valid reasons, Fidya or Kaffarah may be due. Through ARF, your payments directly support food distribution to some of the poorest communities in Somalia and across Africa.

Fidya is due when a person is unable to fast because of long-term illness or frailty and cannot make up the fast at a later time. The amount is typically £5 per missed fast, which provides meals for vulnerable families across Africa. Your Fidya ensures that for every fast missed, someone in need is fed and supported with dignity.

Kaffarah is required for deliberately breaking a fast without a valid reason. It involves feeding 60 needy people for each missed fast or fasting 60 consecutive days. Through your Kaffarah, vulnerable communities in Somalia and across Africa receive essential food and support during times of hardship.

Family Food Pack

Your donation of £70 can provide a family with a food pack this Ramadan.

African Relief Fund actively combats food poverty through our food distribution project. We provide essential food packs to families in need, containing non-perishable items that are rich in nutrition.

These parcels are created to sustain an average-sized family for three weeks, safeguarding against hunger and ensuring that children receive nourishment without parents having to sacrifice their meals.

In the past year alone, our efforts resulted in feeding 1000 adults and 12,500 children underscoring the great reach of our food distribution project.

As food insecurity continues to rise across vulnerable communities in Africa, your support is more vital than ever. Together, we can ensure that no family is left struggling to find a meal during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Iftari/Suhoor Meal

Ramadan is a great time when people eagerly unite for worship and enjoyment of a fulfilling meal after a day of fasting - a highly anticipated event. Recognising the significance of this period, we extend our efforts beyond food pack distribution to offer hot meals or iftars to underprivileged people throughout the blessed month.

By donating £45, you can provide a hot meal or Iftar for one person for the whole month of Ramadan and gain multiple rewards.

Pay Your Zakah

In 90% of Somalia, an unprecedented and severe drought, the most severe in almost four decades, has taken a devastating toll. Three consecutive failed rainy seasons have resulted in acute water shortages, leading to displacement, a surge in diarrhoea-related deaths, and an alarming rise in malnutrition. Presently, 3.5 million people are grappling with extreme hunger, facing the imminent threat of starvation.

This Ramadan, we urgently need to improve our initiatives to provide vital food aid to the millions affected by the prolonged drought in Somalia.

Give your Zakah to the African Relief Fund to reach more needy people and make a positive impact.

"The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed (of grain) which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies (His reward) for whom He wills."(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:261).

The Blessings of Ramadan Giving

Ramadan is a time when rewards are multiplied and hearts are softened. The Prophet (PBUH) was described as “more generous than the blowing wind” during Ramadan (Bukhari).

Your giving this month can:

  • Feed fasting families in need
  • Provide clean water to drought-affected communities
  • Support orphans and vulnerable children
  • Deliver urgent medical care

£100 is more than enough this Ramadan.

Last Ramadan Impact

In Ramadan 2025, we successfully provided 1470 food packs to the targeted areas in the Horn of Africa. Our efforts included distributing Ramadan family parcels to hundreds of needy families. As a result, over 9000 individuals and their families benefited from our nutritious food parcels.

More than a hundred people received much-needed cash assistance for their basic needs. Your zakat made it possible for these individuals to access essential items like food, clothing, and shelter, improving their living conditions and ensuring their well-being during Ramadan. Zakat-Ul-Fitr or Fitrana was distributed to people in need, allowing them to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr happily. Your contributions enabled us to provide this particular charity to the less fortunate, ensuring they could also join the festivities of Eid and experience the joy of the occasion.
